Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a legally registered Non-Governmental Organization initiated in May 2000 by several women’s organisations in Uganda to develop the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among women as tools to share information and address issues collectively. The organisation envisions an inclusive and just society where women and girls are enabled to use Information Communications Technologies (ICTs) for sustainable development. WOUGNET emphasizes the use of ICTs in its interventions to promote women’s rights online. These include but are not limited to SMS, Radio, Television, Email, social media, and Print with the internet as an enabler to communicate and share information. WOUGNET undertakes evidence base research on issues of ICTs and gender, advocates for gender responsive laws, policies, and programs, and also implements projects (governance and accountability, entrepreneurship, agriculture, digital inclusion, and digital literacy) that empower women in the rural and urban areas.
